Woman Charged After Assaulting Police During Domestic Violence Incident

Family Violence Escalates in Belconnen

A 47-year-old woman is facing charges after allegedly assaulting police and her child during a family violence incident in Belconnen on the evening of October 6, 2024. The situation escalated around 7 p.m. following a verbal argument between the woman and her child, which occurred after she had been drinking alcohol. Concerned for her safety due to her intoxicated state, the child attempted to prevent her from leaving the home by getting into her car.

Witnesses, including neighbors, intervened, but during the altercation, the woman allegedly assaulted her child by biting, hitting, and scratching him. When police arrived shortly after, they attempted to calm the situation.

However, the woman’s aggressive behavior led to her resisting arrest, including throwing punches and kicking at an officer. Ultimately, police were able to subdue her, and she was charged with multiple offenses, including assaulting a frontline community service provider and aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm. She is scheduled to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today.
