Urgent Warning: Lethal Illicit Drugs Linked to Overdose Deaths in Canberra

ACT Police Alert on Dangerous Drugs After Multiple Fatal Overdoses

ACT Police have issued a crucial warning following the recent deaths of four individuals from drug overdoses in Canberra over the past two months.

Authorities suspect that these fatalities might be due to highly potent drugs, possibly including synthetic opioids such as fentanyl or nitazenes.

The latest incidents involve a man and a woman who died separately last Thursday, adding to the previous two overdose deaths within this short period.

Police are investigating the exact causes but suspect high-purity drugs or dangerous additives are to blame. Synthetic opioids were identified in the ACT as recently as May.

ACT Policing Detective Acting Superintendent Dave Craft has emphasized the importance of raising awareness about these drugs and encouraging safer practices among users.

He stressed that while there is no safe drug use, harm minimization is critical.

The community is urged to use services like CanTEST for free, confidential drug testing.

Recent media reports have highlighted the dangers of nitazenes, highly potent synthetic opioids that have been found in various substances, further exacerbating the risk of overdose.
