ACT Police Arrest Two Men in Connection with Illegal Firearm Manufacturing
Two men have been charged with firearms offences following a police investigation in Mitchell, ACT. Australian Border Force officials intercepted items in September 2024, believed to be intended for the manufacture of firearms. This information was passed to ACT Policing, leading to an investigation by Gungahlin general duties officers.
On Friday, 27 September 2024, search warrants were executed at two business premises in Mitchell. During the searches, police found multiple items used to manufacture firearms, including firearm bolts, barrels, metal cutouts, a barrel reaming tool, and a gel blaster pistol.

A 47-year-old Mitchell man, who had his firearms licence cancelled due to a family violence assault conviction, was charged with three counts of unauthorised possession of 3-9 firearms and one count of unauthorised firearm manufacture.
A 43-year-old Macgregor man, whose firearms licence was previously cancelled due to firearms offences, was charged with unauthorised firearm manufacture. Both men are scheduled to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court on Saturday, 28 September 2024. The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may follow.
