ATM Theft Attempt Leads to Police Arrest
Two men have been charged after allegedly attempting to steal an ATM from a golf club in Kilsyth South on Monday, 30 September 2024. Police responded to an alarm at the Liverpool Road club around 4 a.m., spotting the suspects inside before they fled in a Jeep Cherokee with false plates.
Officers successfully deployed stop sticks on Hunter Street, Ferntree Gully, forcing the suspects to abandon the Jeep on Mount Albert Road, Boronia. One of the men then broke into a nearby residence, stealing car keys and attempting to steal a vehicle, but was unsuccessful.
The police dog squad later arrested the men near Chestnut Avenue. A 43-year-old Noble Park man has been charged with burglary, aggravated burglary, theft, and drug possession, while a 46-year-old Oakleigh East man faces charges of burglary, attempted theft, and drug possession. Both have been bailed to appear at Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on 18 December.
