Police Arrest Suspects Following Dramatic Carjacking Incident
Two men have been charged after an alleged aggravated carjacking involving a stolen Nissan Navara ute in Diggers Rest on November 25, 2024. The incident began around 9:30 a.m. when a man reportedly approached a woman with an axe and stole her vehicle on Mount Aiken Road. Fortunately, the woman was unharmed.
The stolen vehicle was located in Kurunjang around 11:30 a.m., prompting a brief police pursuit. However, the car was lost during the chase. Shortly afterward, officers discovered the Nissan overturned on Gamalite Drive in Harkness, following a collision with another civilian vehicle.
The alleged driver of the stolen vehicle fled on foot but was arrested nearby. A 25-year-old man from Kurunjang was taken to the hospital under police guard and later charged with multiple offences, including aggravated carjacking, dangerous driving, and assault with a weapon.
A 29-year-old man from Winter Valley was also arrested and charged with aggravated carjacking, vehicle theft, and drug possession. Both suspects have been remanded in custody and are set to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on February 18, 2025.
A 17-year-old girl arrested nearby was released pending further investigation. The civilian driver involved in the collision was not injured.
