Police Uncover $700,000 Theft Operation Linked to Colombian Crime Syndicate
Blacktown police have arrested two Colombian nationals involved in a major property theft ring across Sydney. In July 2024, Blacktown Police launched Strike Force Louth to investigate the theft of $400,000 worth of jewellery from a Blacktown business. Investigations linked the theft to a Colombian crime syndicate allegedly responsible for numerous thefts across Burwood, Auburn, Campsie, and St George.
From July to October 2024, the syndicate is suspected of targeting elderly victims, stealing jewellery and cash worth approximately $700,000. Police arrested a 47-year-old man and woman at a restaurant on Sussex Street, Sydney, on 15 October 2024. A search of their Greenacre home uncovered stolen jewellery, diamonds, cash, and designer clothing.
Both individuals face multiple charges, including larceny and participating in criminal activity. Police allege the pair used distraction tactics, dropping money in front of elderly victims to steal from them. The stolen items were then sent overseas to Spain and Colombia. Both suspects have been denied bail and are due to appear in court today, 16 October 2024.
Investigations under Strike Force Louth are ongoing.
