Ongoing Investigation Following Stolen Vehicle Incident
A police shooting in Wentworthville has led to the death of a 26-year-old man, following a dramatic incident on October 4, 2024. Officers from the Cumberland Police Area Command responded to reports of a stolen vehicle on Lane Street around 12:10 PM. Upon entering an underground car park, the officers claimed that the stolen vehicle was driven toward them. In response, police discharged their firearms, injuring two men inside the car.
First aid was immediately rendered by the officers until NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived. The injured men were transported to Westmead Hospital, where the 26-year-old was reported to be in critical condition, while the 34-year-old was admitted in serious but stable condition. Unfortunately, the younger man succumbed to his injuries on October 9, 2024.
The officers involved were not physically injured, and a critical incident team from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, along with the South West Metropolitan Region, is now investigating the events surrounding this tragic incident. Additionally, an independent review will be conducted.
