Unauthorized Flight Ends in Disaster
A tragic helicopter crash occurred early Monday morning in Cairns, Australia, when a helicopter crashed into the roof of the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel.
The pilot, who was the only person on board, was killed in the crash, which happened during an unauthorized flight. The impact caused a fire, forcing hundreds of guests and hotel staff to evacuate the building.

Witnesses reported seeing the helicopter flying at high speed before it crashed. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the accident, including whether the helicopter was stolen or if the crash was intentional.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) and Queensland Police are leading the investigation.
Nautilus Aviation, the company that owns the helicopter, confirmed that the flight was unauthorized and is cooperating with authorities.
The Cairns community is in shock, and police have set up an exclusion zone around the crash site as the investigation continues.
