Demonstrators Call for Ceasefire on October 7 Anniversary
Thousands of people gathered in Melbourne, Sydney, and Adelaide for pro-Palestine rallies on the eve of the October 7 attack anniversary. Demonstrators called for a ceasefire as the Middle Eastern conflict intensifies. With heightened police presence in all locations, authorities were satisfied with the peaceful behavior of the protesters.
Over the course of a year, protesters across Australia have consistently rallied against the ongoing violence in Gaza. Since a surprise Hamas attack in Israel in October last year, the subsequent Israeli offensive has resulted in over 41,000 Palestinian deaths.
Protesters demand stronger government action in support of Palestine, but many feel their pleas are being ignored. Thousands of kites were laid in Melbourne to symbolize children lost in the conflict.
