Crash Investigation Underway in Maitland After Vehicle Theft Incident
Around 6:15 am on November 5, 2024, emergency services responded to a collision between a white Toyota Hilux and a motorcycle on The Long Bridge, High Street, Maitland. The motorcyclist, a 58-year-old man, received immediate care from NSW Ambulance paramedics and was then airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in serious condition.
Port Stephens-Hunter Police arrested the alleged driver, a 16-year-old male, near the scene. The youth, who was reportedly driving a stolen utility from Pelaw Main, was taken to Maitland Hospital under police guard for injuries and mandatory testing. Authorities established a crime scene, and the Crash Investigation Unit (CIU) has begun examining both vehicles to uncover details of the incident.
