Police Seize Massive Haul of Illicit Tobacco in Craigieburn Raid

Detectives from Taskforce Lunar, with support from the VIPER Taskforce, conducted a raid on a Craigieburn residence early on Wednesday, 6 November 2024, seizing nearly 200,000 illicit cigarettes and 255kg of looseleaf tobacco.

Acting on intelligence suggesting the location was used for the sale and packaging of illicit tobacco, police executed a search warrant, resulting in the arrest of a 38-year-old Craigieburn man, who has since been released pending further inquiries.

In addition to the cigarettes and loose tobacco, police confiscated a cash-counting machine, suspected cocaine, over 70 vials of suspected steroids, and two boxes of vape products.

The raid marks a significant step in an ongoing investigation into a criminal syndicate believed to be heavily involved in the illicit tobacco trade. Taskforce Lunar’s efforts aim to dismantle such operations and curb the illegal sale of tobacco in the region.
