Prepare for Strong Winds and Total Fire Ban Across NSW
Residents in Sydney and parts of New South Wales (NSW) are being warned to brace for damaging wind gusts that could reach up to 100km/h, posing a risk of fallen trees and power lines.
The severe weather is expected to hit the east coast from the Illawarra region, through Sydney, and up to the Hunter area by tomorrow. The weather system, which has already caused damage in Victoria, is moving into NSW earlier than anticipated.

The State Emergency Service (SES) advises residents to prepare by trimming tree branches and securing loose outdoor items, such as furniture and trampolines. The strong winds coincide with warmer temperatures, prompting a total fire ban for Greater Sydney and the Illawarra.
Despite the wild weather, temperatures are expected to reach 25 degrees on the second day of spring. It will cool slightly mid-week before heating up again to 29 degrees later in the week.
Last week, Australia experienced its highest winter temperature on record, and multiple grass fires were reported in Sydney’s southwest.
