Sydney Man Charged Over Alleged $1.2 Million Solar Panel Theft

Employee Accused of Stealing Thousands of Solar Panels

A 37-year-old man has been charged following the alleged theft of nearly 8,000 solar panels valued at $1.2 million from a Minchinbury warehouse in Sydney’s west.

Between May 2023 and August 2024, the man allegedly sold 7,894 solar panels to third parties without his employer’s knowledge or consent. An internal audit by the business uncovered the missing panels, prompting an investigation by Mt Druitt Police Area Command.

The accused was arrested on November 29, 2024, and charged with two offences: stealing property as a clerk or servant and disposing of property related to a serious indictable theft. He was granted conditional bail and is set to appear in Mount Druitt Local Court on December 18, 2024.

Authorities continue to remind businesses of the importance of internal audits to detect and prevent workplace theft.
