Stay Safe at Listen Out 2024: Important Tips for Festival Goers

Police and Organizers Promote Safety at Sydney’s Music Festival

As the Listen Out music festival approaches in Sydney this weekend, police and event organizers are urging festival-goers to prioritize safety and responsibility. Scheduled for Sunday, October 6, 2024, the festival is expected to attract around 17,000 attendees at Centennial Park. To ensure a secure environment, the Eastern Beaches Police Area Command will conduct a high-visibility operation, supported by the Licensing Police, the NSW Police Dog Unit, and other specialist commands.

Detective Superintendent Paul Simpkins emphasized that the safety of festival-goers is their top priority. He urged attendees to stay aware of their surroundings and look out for friends throughout the event. “Our officers will be targeting anti-social behavior and alcohol-fueled violence,” Simpkins stated, underscoring that such behavior is unacceptable and jeopardizes the safety of everyone present.

The police chief also issued a warning regarding prohibited drugs, reminding attendees of their potential dangers, especially when mixed with alcohol. “If you or a friend feels unwell, seek professional medical attention at one of the medical tents on-site,” he advised, highlighting the importance of looking after oneself and others.

Hydration is crucial, and Simpkins encouraged festival-goers to drink plenty of water, wear sunscreen, and seek shade to avoid heat-related illnesses. With the festival expected to draw large crowds, public transportation is likely to be busy. Attendees are advised to exercise patience and consider leaving their cars at home. The most efficient way to reach the venue is via light rail, with services running every five to ten minutes from 7 AM to 1 AM the following morning.

This year marks the first time teens aged over 16 can attend the event, but attendees under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult and remain in their company throughout the festival. The closest station to the event site is Moore Park Light Rail Station, making it a convenient option for getting to and from the festival.
