Authorities Investigate Deliberately Lit Fire at South Yarra Nightclub

Detectives are investigating a deliberate fire that caused extensive damage to a nightclub on Chapel Street, South Yarra, early Thursday morning. The fire, set using an accelerant, was ignited by at least three individuals who forced entry into the venue around 1:50 am. The blaze inflicted millions of dollars in damages, affecting nearby businesses and the local area.

Firefighters brought the fire under control by 3:30 am, and police are treating the incident as suspicious, suspecting a targeted attack. The motive behind the arson remains unclear, and detectives are continuing their inquiries, including reviewing extensive CCTV footage from the area.

One suspect reportedly sustained burn injuries to their hands and arms during the fire. Authorities are urging anyone who provided medical treatment for burns or sold medical supplies to a person with such injuries to come forward. Additionally, police are appealing to witnesses or individuals with CCTV or dash-cam footage of the incident to assist in their investigation.

While no one else was injured, the fire has left a significant impact on the community.
