Police Take Action Against Blackmail in Illegal Tobacco Trade
A South Brighton man, 28, was arrested and charged with blackmail after allegedly targeting a local tobacco shop owner. Police arrested the suspect on October 26, and he appeared in Adelaide Magistrates Court without bail. This arrest is part of Operation Eclipse, aimed at tackling violence and extortion related to the illegal tobacco market.
Detective Chief Inspector Brett Featherby, commander of the operation, emphasized that police will use all legal measures to combat intimidation in this trade, even if victims are hesitant to cooperate. Featherby encouraged individuals facing threats within the illegal tobacco market to come forward, assuring them of police support.
