Investigation Underway After Fatal Sydney Street Shooting
Police are investigating a fatal shooting on Baptist Street, Surry Hills, which occurred Friday night. Emergency crews arrived at the scene around 7:45 pm after reports of gunfire. Despite paramedics’ efforts, a man in his 30s succumbed to his injuries.
The incident also led to the closure of Cleveland Street between South Dowling and Elizabeth Street, disrupting traffic and bus services.
Shortly after, a Porsche was found ablaze in nearby Kensington. Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the fire in 20 minutes. Authorities believe the car fire and the shooting are connected.
Detectives from the South Sydney Police Area Command and the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad have launched an investigation. A report will be prepared for the coroner as inquiries continue.
