Santa’s Mystery App: A New Scam Targeting iPhone Users in Australia

Festive Season Scam Deceives Users with AI-Generated Videos

This festive season, a new scam called “Santa’s Mystery App” is targeting Australian iPhone users through Facebook. Promoted with AI-generated news videos, the app falsely claims to be an official Apple initiative, offering cash prizes of up to $1 million.

To appear credible, scammers fabricated endorsements from Apple’s Director and advertised a supposed 95% winning probability, boasting a prize pool of $1 billion.

The app lures users with promises of greater chances to win if they play for hours. Scammers bolster their claims with fake success stories, including fabricated profiles of winners from Canada, all created using AI. They also falsely present the app as a top-rated success internationally, adding a deceptive layer of trust.

In reality, this app is a trap. Users are encouraged to deposit money, which is then stolen. Simultaneously, the app harvests sensitive credit card details, putting users at significant financial risk.

To stay safe, avoid downloading suspicious apps and verify their authenticity. Protect yourself this holiday season by staying informed about emerging scams. Download the ACSU app for real-time alerts and cybersecurity tips. Spread the word to keep others safe from falling victim to this scam.
