Man Arrested After Lengthy Regional Pursuit
A man was arrested following a high-speed pursuit across regional South Australia. On Friday, 11 October, police responded to an alleged assault in Hamley Bridge around 7:40 AM. The suspect, driving a silver Mitsubishi Lancer, was reported to have committed a petrol drive-off in Balaklava shortly after.
Police patrols lost sight of the vehicle near Snowtown, prompting the use of PolAir to track the suspect. The vehicle was later seen traveling north on Horrocks Highway, passing through towns such as Booleroo Centre, Wilmington, and Carrieton. After a long pursuit, the Lancer stopped on a paddock track at Belton around 1 PM.
The 40-year-old man was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including assault, illegal use of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, and driving while disqualified. He was refused bail and is set to appear in Port Augusta Magistrates Court on Monday.
