Quick-Thinking Father Saves 5-Year-Old Son After Car Thief Drives Off in Officer

Quick Actions Lead to Child’s Safe Return

A 42-year-old man was arrested in Officer this morning after allegedly stealing a car with a 5-year-old boy inside. The father had briefly left his running vehicle outside a Princes Highway service station when the thief took off.

Acting swiftly, the father called his phone left in the car. The alleged thief answered, and upon learning about the child, drove to Pakenham Police Station. The boy was safely reunited with his father, and the suspect was promptly arrested.

Cardinia Crime Investigation Unit detectives have interviewed the man, who has been released pending further inquiries. This incident serves as a critical reminder for parents to avoid leaving children unattended in vehicles, even for a short moment.
