Cairns, Townsville, and Mount Isa Residents Encouraged to Redeem Vouchers
The Queensland Police have extended the Vehicle Immobiliser Subsidy Trial deadline to December 31, 2024, giving Cairns, Townsville, and Mount Isa residents more time to redeem their vouchers. The $500 voucher fully covers the cost of purchasing and installing a vehicle immobiliser, aiming to reduce car thefts and curb property crime in these areas.
Since the trial began in August 2023, over 20,242 vouchers have been issued across the three districts, with 8,901 already redeemed as of October 3, 2024. Superintendent Dean Cavanagh praised the success of the initiative, highlighting that no vehicle fitted with an immobiliser has been stolen in Queensland. He urged residents who still hold vouchers to take advantage of this opportunity, as immobilisers have already prevented several theft attempts.
“This initiative has been very successful across Cairns, Townsville, and Mount Isa. It is an easy and affordable way to protect your vehicle from thieves while assisting police in their efforts to reduce crime,” said Superintendent Cavanagh.
To redeem a voucher, residents can book an installation online. Those who no longer need their voucher can return it for reallocation by emailing the provided address.
The trial has seen 10,416 vouchers redeemed so far, with Townsville accounting for 4,844, Cairns 5,335, and Mount Isa 237.
