Protesters Target Van Gogh Paintings in Anti-Oil Demonstration

Activists Arrested After Throwing Soup on Iconic Artworks

In a bold act of protest, anti-oil activists threw orange soup on two Vincent Van Gogh paintings, “Sunflowers” (1888 and 1889), at the National Gallery in central London. The three protesters were arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage.

This incident follows a similar protest where two activists received jail sentences for defacing the same artwork in 2022.
