Essential Steps to Ensure Your Family’s Safety
Get Ready Queensland Week has officially launched, running from October 8 to 13. This initiative encourages residents across the state to prepare for the extreme weather that frequently impacts Queensland, the region most affected by natural disasters in Australia.
Rugby league legend and Get Ready Queensland Ambassador Johnathan Thurston emphasizes, “The weather doesn’t plan, but you can,” urging everyone to take proactive measures.
To help Queenslanders prepare, Get Ready Queensland offers three essential steps:
- Understand Your Risk: Recognize that the impacts of extreme weather can vary by location. Familiarize yourself with potential risks in your area and how they might affect your family.
- Make a Plan: Create a household emergency plan outlining what your family should do during severe weather. Having a clear plan ensures that everyone knows their roles and who to contact in emergencies, providing peace of mind.
- Pack a Kit: When shopping, pick up extra items to build an emergency kit. Include essentials such as water, non-perishable food, and first-aid supplies.
Additionally, a new online severe weather emergency planning tool has been launched to help Queenslanders create their plans easily. Access it at getready.qld.gov.au/plan. More resources and tips are available at www.getready.qld.gov.au.
