Teen Injured in Crash and Assault Incident Under Investigation
A serious traffic crash and assault incident in Homebush, southwest of Mackay, is under police investigation after a 17-year-old girl was struck by a car on November 2. Around 9:45 p.m., a red Mazda 3 traveling westbound collided with the girl, who was on the roadway. Witnesses report that a white utility was driving dangerously on Homebush Road moments before the collision.
After the crash, several bystanders allegedly approached the Mazda and assaulted a 53-year-old male passenger. Police arrived shortly after and dispersed the crowd. The injured teen was transported to Mackay Base Hospital, where she remains in serious but stable condition. The assaulted 53-year-old man was also treated at the hospital, while the other Mazda occupants, including a 16-year-old female driver, were unharmed.
The Forensic Crash Unit is seeking information, including CCTV, dashcam, or mobile footage, to aid in their investigation of the incident.
