Homicide Squad Probes Death Following Police Custody
Police are investigating the death of a 27-year-old man in North Melbourne on Friday, November 22, 2024. Officers responded to reports of a man behaving erratically near Macaulay Railway Station around 4:20 pm.
The man, who had no fixed address, was found on Langford Street and taken into custody to arrange for medical assistance. While waiting for an ambulance, the man’s condition worsened despite first aid efforts by police. Paramedics arrived shortly after but were unable to save him, and he died at the scene.
The Homicide Squad is leading the investigation, with oversight from Professional Standards Command, as per protocol for deaths in police custody.
