Officers Face Extreme Danger During Roxburgh Park Burglary Incident
Police in Melbourne’s north fired three shots at burglars in a dramatic encounter early Sunday morning, 24 November 2024. Responding to reports of a suspicious vehicle on Somerton Road in Roxburgh Park, officers were met with a red Toyota RAV4 that rammed their patrol car. Shortly after, a large truck sideswiped their vehicle, ripping off its doors.
Despite the attack, the sergeant exited the vehicle and fired three shots at the SUV, which, along with the truck, fled the scene. The incident revealed that a nearby business had been burgled, with stolen equipment falling from the fleeing vehicles.
The RAV4 was later found burnt out in Somerton, and police are investigating whether any bullets struck the vehicle. The truck remains at large. Superintendent Michael Cruse commended the officers for their bravery under extreme danger, emphasizing their efforts to protect the community.
Both officers were unharmed and are receiving support. Professional Standards Command is investigating the incident as part of routine procedures involving police shootings.
