The Gold Coast police are urging both residents and visitors to plan their travel routes ahead of the 2024 Gold Coast 500 event, which runs from October 25 to 27. Several road closures have been scheduled to ensure the smooth running of the event while maintaining public safety.
The event will take place in the Main Beach and Surfers Paradise areas, with key roads temporarily closed to accommodate race activities and manage traffic for participants and spectators. Police are collaborating with event organizers and local authorities to minimize disruption while ensuring the community’s safety.
Motorists are advised to use alternate routes during the event period. Below are the key road closures:
- Gold Coast Highway: Reduced to one lane in both directions between Waterways Drive and Surfers Paradise Boulevard (near Golden Gate Resort) from October 21 to 28.
- Gold Coast Highway: Reduced to one northbound lane from Thomas Drive to Waterways Drive from October 21 to 28.
- Various side streets within Main Beach and Surfers Paradise will also have restricted access for residents and businesses leading up to and during the event.
A full list of road closures is available here.
Public transport services, including buses and the GLink, light rail, will continue to operate, with some adjustments to routes and schedules. Commuters should allow extra travel time and stay updated on any further changes.
Acting Superintendent Scott Knowles emphasized the importance of public cooperation during the event, stating, “Our goal is to ensure the Gold Coast 500 runs smoothly, while keeping everyone informed and safe. We urge all attendees and residents to respect the road closures and follow police directions.”
