NSW MP Rory Amon Resigns Amid Child Sex Charges

Rory Amon Steps Down After Serious Allegations

Rory Amon, the Liberal MP for Pittwater in New South Wales, has resigned from both parliament and the Liberal Party following charges of child sex offences.

Amon, 35, faces five counts of sexual intercourse with a person aged 10 to 14, two counts of attempting such acts, and additional charges of indecent assault and acts of indecency involving minors under 16.

The allegations date back to July 2017 when a teenage boy reported being sexually assaulted by a man known to him in Mona Vale. The investigation, conducted by Strike Force NOORAL, began in June 2022.

After extensive inquiries, Amon was arrested at Manly Police Station and granted conditional bail to appear at Manly Local Court on September 18.

Amon has denied all charges and stated he will defend himself in court. He explained that he resigned to allow the people of Pittwater a representative who could fully commit to their community.

NSW Opposition Leader Mark Speakman called for Amon’s immediate resignation, stating the seriousness of the allegations. Meanwhile, NSW Police Minister Yasmin Catley and Commissioner Karen Webb were unaware of the charges when news broke.
