NSW Health Warns Fresh Cosmetic Clinic Clients of Blood-Borne Virus Risk

Infection Control Breaches at Fresh Cosmetic Clinic Lead to Health Alert

NSW Health has issued a warning to former clients of Fresh Cosmetic Clinic in Sydney due to infection control breaches that may have exposed clients to blood-borne viruses.

The South Eastern Sydney Local Health District Public Health Unit (SESLHD PHU) advises that anyone who underwent injections or invasive procedures at the clinic should get tested for viruses such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV. The clinic, previously located at 630 George Street, is no longer in operation.

Concerns about the clinic’s practices arose after a Health Care Complaints Commission (HCCC) investigation revealed evidence of potential public health risks. Following an inspection on October 22, SESLHD PHU confirmed that certain procedures at the clinic may have involved unsafe practices, potentially exposing clients to infections.

Dr. Vicky Sheppeard, Director of SESLHD PHU, emphasized the importance of testing, noting that blood-borne viruses may remain asymptomatic for years, allowing “silent” infections to go undetected without screening.

NSW Health and HCCC are continuing to assess the clinic’s practices and determine whether further action is needed. Clients who have concerns about their treatment can reach out to HCCC, Health Care Complaints Commission on prohibitionorders@hccc.nsw.gov.au  or contact their local public health unit (1300 066 055) for additional information on blood-borne virus testing.
