Police Crack Down on Kava Trafficking in Galiwinku
Northern Territory Police seized 196kg of kava during a raid on a residence in Galiwinku on Tuesday afternoon. Acting on intelligence, officers conducted a search on Nalkanna Street, discovering the substance hidden in suitcases.
A 63-year-old man and a 57-year-old woman were charged in connection with the incident and will appear in Galiwinku Local Court.
Remote Sergeant Dylan Hart emphasized the detrimental impact of kava misuse, noting its role in health and economic challenges in remote communities. He reaffirmed the police’s commitment to tackling the supply of illicit substances, thanking the community for assisting in identifying these operations.
This operation highlights the ongoing effort to maintain safety in restricted areas of the Northern Territory.
