Snowy Mountains Rescue Effort Locates Missing Woman in Stable Condition
After nearly a week, a 48-year-old woman reported missing from the Snowy Mountains has been found safe following an extensive search effort by emergency services. The search began on October 21, 2024, when Monaro Police were notified of her disappearance.
A command post was set up at Kiandra Courthouse, and a broad-scale operation was launched involving Monaro Police, the Mounted and Dog Units, SES, Rural Fire Service, National Parks and Wildlife, and Surf Life Saving Helicopter. Public volunteers also aided in the search.
On October 27, a National Parks and Wildlife officer found the woman on the Nungar Creek Trail near Kiandra around 4:50 p.m. She was injured and treated on-site for exposure and a possible snake bite before being taken to Cooma District Hospital in stable condition.
