NSW Health Warns Residents After Measles Case
NSW Health has issued a measles alert after a confirmed case visited several locations in Sydney’s Inner West while infectious. The individual had recently returned from Southeast Asia, where measles outbreaks are ongoing.
Exposure sites include Metro Petroleum on Enmore Road (7 November, 6:15-7 AM), Philter Brewing in Marrickville (7 November, 6:30-10 PM), and Marrickville Medical Centre (10 November, 9:15-11 AM). Although these places no longer pose a risk, visitors during these times should monitor for symptoms until 28 November.
Symptoms include fever, sore eyes, cough, and a red blotchy rash spreading from the face to the body. Anyone developing symptoms should call their GP or emergency department in advance to prevent exposure to others.
NSW Health emphasizes the importance of the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine, which is free for those born after 1965 without two doses. Early vaccination can prevent measles, even after exposure.
Travelers should ensure their vaccinations are up to date, as outbreaks continue in several regions. Parents with young children traveling to high-risk areas can consult their GP for early vaccination options.
