Retail Theft Syndicate’s Impact on Supermarkets
A man has been charged following an investigation into a large-scale retail theft syndicate by VIPER Taskforce detectives. On October 11, detectives traveled to New South Wales as part of an ongoing operation targeting a syndicate involved in stealing high-value grocery products from supermarkets between 2023 and 2024.
Police allege the group, which includes over 100 people, is responsible for thefts worth more than $3 million. A 27-year-old Indian national was extradited to Melbourne and charged with 87 counts of theft. He is set to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on October 15.
The investigation highlights the extensive operation of organized retail theft in Australia.
