Man Charged After Alleged Car Theft in Sydney’s West

Alleged Car Theft in Merrylands: Suspect to Face Court

A 30-year-old man is set to appear in Parramatta Local Court today following an alleged car theft and firearm threat in Merrylands, Sydney’s west. The incident occurred just after 6:15 p.m. on Friday, 11 October 2024, when police were called to Hilltop Road after reports of a man allegedly pointing a firearm at several individuals before fleeing in a white Toyota sedan.

Cumberland Police Area Command officers quickly responded and, with the assistance of PolAir, located the abandoned vehicle on Boronia Street, Ermington. Police investigations revealed that the man had entered the Toyota’s backseat, threatening the 55-year-old male driver and demanding to be taken to Villawood.

The driver, fearing for his safety, handed over the vehicle on Crimea Street, Parramatta, without suffering any physical harm. Police apprehended the suspect on Boyle Street, Ermington, around 7:00 p.m., shortly after the vehicle was abandoned.

The man was taken to Westmead Hospital for treatment and mandatory testing before being charged at Granville Police Station. He now faces multiple charges, including stealing a motor vehicle, driving while disqualified, larceny, and using an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offense.

The accused was refused bail and is scheduled to appear in court today. (Saturday 12 October 2024).
