Court Denies Bail for Alleged Attempted Murder Suspect
Zachery Norton, 30, has been refused bail after being charged with attempted murder for a violent machete attack in Wanniassa, ACT. The attack left the victim with life-threatening injuries, including severed fingers, deep cuts, and fractures.
The incident occurred in September at a house where Norton allegedly squatted. Court documents suggest the victim initially visited the location to buy and use drugs. Following the attack, the victim underwent 14 hours of surgery and spent four days in a coma.
Norton was arrested while attempting to board an interstate bus. During his bail hearing, Norton cited his role as a carer for his 86-year-old grandmother as a reason for release. However, prosecutors revealed his grandmother had not seen him in months, undermining his claim.
The court also considered other alleged offenses linked to Norton, leading to his bail refusal. The case is set to return to court in January.
