Australian Authorities Seize Millions in Cocaine and Meth at Airports
Australian Federal Police (AFP) and Australian Border Force (ABF) officers prevented three significant drug smuggling attempts within a single day, seizing a total of 103kg of illicit drugs valued at over $80 million. The busts involved 77kg of methamphetamine and 26kg of cocaine, intercepted at Melbourne and Sydney airports.

In Melbourne, two women from the United Kingdom, aged 20 and 33, were arrested with 26kg of cocaine concealed in luggage following a flight from Mexico. The 33-year-old was charged with importing a commercial quantity of drugs and faces a possible life sentence.

Meanwhile, at Sydney Airport, AFP apprehended a 21-year-old New South Wales woman and a 23-year-old New Zealander arriving from Singapore with 52kg of methamphetamine disguised as tea. Both face similar charges.

In a separate incident, a 38-year-old dual UK-Northern Ireland national was detained with 25kg of methamphetamine upon arrival from Thailand.
AFP Superintendent Morgan Blunden emphasized the increasing use of “drug mules” in attempted smuggling operations and reiterated Australia’s zero-tolerance policy. ABF Acting Commander Graeme Campbell warned of the severe, life-changing consequences of drug trafficking, as the combined efforts of ABF and AFP continue to disrupt these illicit networks.
