Operation Whiskey Luxe Targets Drug and Firearm Offenses Across Queensland
In a major cross-border initiative, Queensland’s Taskforce Maxima, in collaboration with New South Wales Police, recently executed a four-day operation targeting outlaw motorcycle gangs (OMCGs) suspected of engaging in drug trafficking and illegal firearm possession. This operation, dubbed “Whiskey Luxe,” resulted in 15 individuals facing 60 charges related to drugs and firearms, including trafficking, possession, and intent to distribute.
Conducted from November 4-7, officers carried out 10 search warrants in areas such as Surfers Paradise, Tallebudgera, and Coomera. Among the seized items were three firearms, two tasers, various drugs, and approximately $15,000 in cash. Notably, police confiscated methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine, and MDMA, all of which were allegedly intended for sale ahead of Queensland’s annual Schoolies festival.
Among those arrested, a 57-year-old Surfers Paradise man and a 34-year-old accomplice face multiple drug charges, while other OMCG associates from the Mongols and Comanchero gangs were also charged with drug trafficking and possession offenses. Several members face additional charges, including affray and property damage, with court appearances scheduled in Southport Magistrates Court later this month and into December.
Detective Inspector Craig Bowman highlighted the importance of the operation, stating that these arrests represent a critical effort to safeguard the community from criminal gang activities. He emphasized the ongoing dedication to targeting individuals profiting from illegal drugs, especially as these substances contribute to further criminal acts and endanger community well-being.
