Wanding Operation in Brisbane Leads to Weapon and Drug Charges

A 23-year-old man from Bulimba has been charged with weapon and drug offences after a wanding operation at a Brisbane shopping centre on September 29. During the operation, police found the man carrying a pocketknife, glass pipes, and methylamphetamine. He faces multiple charges, including possession of dangerous drugs and unlawful carrying of a weapon. The man is scheduled to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on November 29.

The wanding operation is part of Jack’s Law, which has expanded to cover shopping centres, licensed venues, and high-risk retail outlets to ensure public safety. Since April 2023, Brisbane police have seized 197 weapons and charged over 540 people with nearly 1,000 offences during these operations.

Chief Inspector Corey Allen emphasized that these initiatives aim to prevent dangerous weapons from entering highly populated areas and reduce the harm caused by knives in the community. He highlighted that both overt and covert operations will continue to maintain public safety.
