King Charles Confronted by Indigenous Senator During Canberra Visit

Senator Lidia Thorpe Challenges King Charles at Parliament House

During a visit to Canberra, King Charles and Queen Camilla were confronted by Indigenous Senator Lidia Thorpe at Parliament House. After the King’s address, Thorpe approached the royal couple, stating, “You are not our king… Give us our land back… We want treaty.” Security quickly intervened, preventing her from reaching King Charles.

Despite the disruption, the royal couple continued to engage with guests at the official reception. Thorpe’s bold statement highlights ongoing calls for land rights and treaty negotiations in Australia, reflecting the broader national debate surrounding Indigenous sovereignty.
