In 2022, 21-year-old Bella Robben was juggling jobs as a barista and waitress in St. Louis, Missouri, all while dreaming of traveling the world. With a backpack and an adventurous spirit, she embarked on a journey that would take her to 19 countries in just two years
Bella Robben’s Journey of Adventure and Growth
Her travels led her to South America and Europe before a chance opportunity arose: a brand trip to Australia with the Northern Territory Tourism Board. Initially planning a short visit, Bella applied for Australia’s working holiday visa, which grants young travelers a 12-month stay with work rights. Approved within days, she decided to make Australia her new home.
Settling in Melbourne, Bella lived in hostels before finding an apartment above a nightclub with friends. She worked as a café waitress, saving money and embracing the vibrant city life. Later, she moved to Far North Queensland, working as a hotel receptionist and enjoying the coastal beauty.
Throughout her journey, Bella discovered personal growth, independence, and a deeper appreciation for living in the moment.
Reflecting on her experiences, she encourages others to embrace a bit of “delusional” optimism, trusting that things will work out even when challenges arise.
As her first working holiday visa nears its end, Bella plans to backpack through Southeast Asia, keeping her options open and her spirit of adventure alive.
