David Speirs’ Legal Struggles and Resignation
Former South Australian Liberal leader David Speirs is set to appear in court after being charged with supplying a controlled substance. Speirs, 39, stepped down from leadership on August 8, citing exhaustion from ongoing speculation.
A video allegedly showing him snorting a substance surfaced in September, which he dismissed as a “deepfake.” Following a police raid, he was arrested on September 26 and charged with two counts of drug supply. Speirs resigned from parliament on October 15, triggering a by-election in his southern Adelaide seat.
