A Fall from Grace: The Case of Orpheus Pledger
Orpheus Pledger, a 31-year-old former star of the Australian soap opera Home and Away, has been sentenced to seven months in jail for violently assaulting a woman on two separate occasions.
The Melbourne Magistrates Court heard that Pledger attacked the woman in March, kicking and punching her in the face during an argument about his drug use and declining mental health.
The violence escalated later in the month when Pledger dragged the victim by her hair and stomped on her face, leaving her with severe bruises and cuts. The police found the woman lying on the floor in pain, and she was rushed to the hospital.

Pledger was initially arrested but absconded after being released on bail, leading to a three-day manhunt before he was captured again.
During sentencing, Magistrate Justin Foster rejected Pledger’s attempts to blame his actions on drug use, emphasizing that society is “fed up with violence, domestic violence, and male violence against women.”
Pledger, who appeared on Home and Away from 2016 to 2019, will be released in under four months after already serving 97 days in custody.
