Former Childcare Worker Sentenced to Life for Abusing Nearly 70 Children

Operation Tenterfield Uncovers Chilling Crimes Against Children

A 46-year-old former childcare worker was sentenced to life imprisonment with a 27-year non-parole period for abusing 69 children in Queensland and Italy between 2003 and 2022. The Brisbane District Court heard the man pleaded guilty to 307 charges, including rape, indecent treatment of children, and producing child exploitation material.

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) launched Operation Tenterfield in 2014, investigating disturbing material uploaded to the dark web. Persistent efforts revealed Southeast Queensland as the crime location, leading to the man’s arrest in 2022. Searches uncovered extensive digital evidence, identifying 64 Queensland victims and four Italian children.

Investigators coordinated with international authorities and childcare centers to identify and inform victims and their families. Support services have been provided to those affected, with the AFP continuing to encourage individuals with information to come forward.

AFP Assistant Commissioner Justine Gough praised the unwavering dedication of law enforcement but emphasized the emotional toll of such investigations. The AFP remains committed to identifying further offenses and bringing perpetrators to justice.
