Fatal Mid-Air Collision Claims Three Lives Near Oakdale

Investigation Underway After Light Planes Crash in Bushland

In a tragic incident near Oakdale, two light planes collided around midday in uncontrolled airspace above Belimbla Park. The crash resulted in the death of all three occupants on board the two aircraft. Debris from the planes scattered across bushland, creating two separate crash sites.

Police reported that one plane was on its way from Cessnock to Shellharbour Airport, with the impact causing it to ignite and burn upon crashing. The second aircraft had taken off from The Oaks Airfield, and its wreckage was found about a kilometer from the other site.

The scene drew a large emergency response, including ten ambulances, as witnesses attempted to provide aid. Sadly, paramedics confirmed that the crash was too severe for any assistance to be effective.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) is investigating the incident, with officers securing the crash sites overnight until the ATSB team arrives from Canberra. The cause of the crash remains unknown, and authorities are still working to confirm the identities of the deceased.
