Swift Action from NT Police Ends High-Risk Pursuit Without Injuries
A dangerous pursuit involving NT Police ended safely on October 31 when six suspects were arrested after a stolen vehicle chase in Wadeye. Officers first spotted a stolen Toyota Hilux in the community, where it was driven recklessly, narrowly missing officers. The situation intensified as the suspects allegedly hijacked another vehicle from a community member, fleeing toward Daly River.
At Daly River, local police intervened, forcing the vehicle to turn back toward Wadeye. NT Police then activated Strike Force Trident, deploying tactical teams and the Dog Operations Unit. The Hilux was eventually tracked on Dorat Road, leading to a high-speed chase toward Adelaide River. Police established Tyre Deflation Devices (TDD) along Stuart Highway to safely intercept the vehicle. The first TDD successfully deflated a rear tire, but the suspects continued, aggressively tailgating a civilian and throwing dangerous objects—including claw hammers and car parts—at police.
Police persistence led to a final TDD setup along Daly River Road, where the vehicle’s front tires were deflated. Running on rims, the Hilux finally came to a stop after being forced off-road by police. Officers, along with Patrol Dog Boss, quickly secured the area and detained the suspects, who ranged from 13 to 21 years old, without incident.
The operation ended with no injuries despite extensive damage to the stolen vehicle. NT Police demonstrated exceptional bravery and strategic response, ensuring the community’s safety during a volatile situation.
