Criminal Investigation Launched Following Woman’s Death in Royal Adelaide Hospital

Police Investigate Suspected Neglect After Woman’s Death in South Australia

South Australian authorities are investigating the death of a woman with physical and intellectual disabilities, declared a major crime, following her passing at the Royal Adelaide Hospital on October 28. She had initially been taken to Port Augusta Hospital on October 24, where paramedics found her seriously ill with infected wounds. Her condition worsened the following day, necessitating a transfer to Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Port Augusta CIB detectives launched a criminal neglect investigation, conducting a thorough search of her Edinburgh Terrace home. Detective Superintendent Des Bray, from Major Crime, stated that the investigation is focused on potential criminal neglect, though it’s uncertain if it directly caused her death. A simultaneous coronial inquiry is underway, examining the actions of all involved in her care.

Superintendent Bray encouraged anyone aware of previous concerns about the woman’s care to contact the police, as officers from Major Crime and the Forensic Response Section work closely with Port Augusta police on the case.
