Citroen, Australia’s longest continuously-running automotive brand, will cease orders for new models by November 1, 2024, marking the end of an era that began in 1923.
The decision comes in response to consistently low sales, with the brand averaging only 200 units sold annually over the past five years.
Citroen Bids Farewell to Australia After a Century of Presence
Citroen’s presence in Australia spanned nearly a century, but the recent lineup—comprising the C3, C4, C5 Aircross SUV, and C5 X fastback crossover—failed to resonate with Australian consumers.

In contrast, niche luxury brands like Maserati and Ferrari have outsold Citroen in recent years.
Despite Citroen’s departure, the brand’s existing customers will continue to receive support. Local distributor Inchcape Australia has assured that the five-year unlimited-mile warranty and capped-price servicing will be honored at all 35 service centers.
David Owen, Citroen Australia’s general manager, emphasized that the decision was made after careful consideration of the evolving automotive landscape and changing consumer preferences.
While Citroen exits the market, the brand’s legacy will live on through the continued support of its loyal customers.
