A Dramatic End to Zerafa vs. Browne Fight
Michael Zerafa’s recent boxing match against Tommy Browne ended in unexpected chaos after Browne retired due to a bicep injury after the first round. The 32-year-old Zerafa, eyeing a future fight with Nikita Tszyu, was visibly upset by Browne’s withdrawal.
He accused Browne of quitting, which led to a heated confrontation between Zerafa and Browne’s trainer, Tommy Mercuri.
The tension escalated when Zerafa’s brother stormed into the ring and threw a punch at Mercuri. The altercation was swiftly condemned, with Zerafa’s brother being removed from Sydney’s International Convention Centre.
Commentators and boxing figures were quick to criticize the incident. Promoter Matt Rose called the behavior unacceptable and stated that it had no place in boxing.
The controversy continued as Zerafa confronted Browne’s team outside their rooms, leading to further criticism. Former champion Shawn Porter suggested Zerafa should not have his brother as a cornerman again.
Despite the chaos, Zerafa remains focused on a future bout with Tszyu, declaring his intention to challenge him next.
