Privacy Concerns Arise Over Data Collection by Car Manufacturers
A recent report by Choice reveals that popular car brands in Australia, like Toyota, Kia, Hyundai, and Tesla, are collecting and sharing data from drivers. Toyota tracks location and driving behavior, Kia and Hyundai share voice recognition data with AI companies, and Tesla captures video and images from inside the car.
While drivers can opt out through settings, privacy advocates are pushing for stricter laws to ensure data collection is limited to what’s “fair and reasonable.” Car companies defend the practice, stating it improves safety and performance, while insurers claim not to use this data for premiums.
