A woman in California, frustrated by repeated mail theft, took matters into her own hands by using an Apple AirTag to track down the culprits.
After noticing her mail had been stolen multiple times, she decided to send herself a package containing the AirTag, a device designed to help locate items through Apple’s Find My network.
When the thieves struck again, the AirTag transmitted its location to the woman’s iCloud account, allowing her to see where her stolen package was.

She promptly reported the theft to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities were able to locate the suspects in Santa Maria, California, with the stolen mail, including the AirTag.
The two suspects, Virginia Franchessca Lara and Donald Ashton Terry, were arrested and charged with multiple felonies, including identity theft, credit card theft, and conspiracy.
The Sheriff’s Office praised the woman for her innovative use of technology, which played a key role in apprehending the thieves.
